"The Needhams"
Sunday, November 4
6:00 PM
I have had the privilege of meeting with a group of men on Thursday mornings for prayer for several weeks now. The bulletin reflects that this meeting is called the "Men's Sunrise Prayer Meeting." Last Thursday we began our time together at 6 AM and the sun was beginning to greet us as we finished shortly before 7 AM. Even though it was still dark at
6 AM and the sun was yet to show itself, it was our privilege to practice Hebrews 4:14-16, based on the SON being risen and seated at the right hand of the Father. Several weeks ago while preaching on the importance and benefit of prayer over 50 people stood to their feet and committed themselves to pray for the people and ministry of Grace Baptist Church. For a multitude of years now, a small group has met on Wednesday nights to study the Word of God and then spend time in corporate prayer. Just today someone suggested that we start a morning prayer time just for the ladies.
I don't remember the exact words of Vince Lombardi as he spoke to his professional football team after an embarrassing loss. The story goes that he held out a football, told the team that it was a football and that the ballgame had been lost because they had forsaken the fundamental basics of the game. It's exciting to me to hear of so many within our church and community returning to the funda-mental basics of Christianity and spending time in prayer.
John 15:7: "If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you."
1 John 3:21-22: "Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God. And whatsoever we ask, we receive of Him, because we keep His commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in His sight.
And this is His commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as He gave us commandment."
1 John 4:14-15: "And this is the confidence that we have in Him, that, if we ask any thing according to His will, He heareth us: And if we know that He hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of Him."
The words of Jesus are recorded in Matthew 18:19-20: "Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in My name, there am I in the midst of them."
E.M. Bounds says, "When God declares that ‘the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward Him,'
(2 Chronicles 16:9) He declares the necessity of men and His dependence on them as a channel through which to exert his power upon the world…What the church needs today is not more machinery or better, not new organizations or more and novel methods, but men whom the Holy Ghost can use—men of prayer, men mighty in prayer."
"Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need." Hebrews 4:16

Matt Douglas visited with us briefly on October 14 while in the States to raise needed funds. He is eager to return to his family in Australia November 13.

Tim Neufeld, Togo, is planning to leave Washington right after Thanksgiving on a trip to Mango, Togo, to look for a house and get things ready for their anticipated return to Africa in the spring.
Why not email or write a missionary at Thanksgiving to let them know you are praying for them? (Addresses are in the back of the church directory.)
