Pastor Paul's Paragraphs

There are times in one's life when you consider doing something for which you feel very inadequate. To speak or write in an area where one lacks expertise is to venture into an arena of potential confusion and insufficiency. Today as I write, it is one of those days. I like to read and over the course of the last several months I have read several books pertaining to prayer. Those authors include E.M. Bounds, Andrew Murrey, Tommy Barnett, Daniel Henderson, and Jerry Bridges. I have also studied several passages of Scripture that pertain to prayer. And I have begun a journey in prayer that is a mix of joy, struggle, enthusiasm, work, time, and much determination. In the midst of this journey, I have come to respect the reality of our total dependency upon God for any success in the eternal work to which He has called each one of us. I have also realized the time and place of prayer to which God calls each of us. I have learned in greater ways to worship, praise, intercede, and to sit quietly while "waiting" on the Lord.

In Jerry Bridges' book, Trusting God, he speaks of God's sovereignty, wisdom and love. He speaks of how God is in control (sovereignty), how God knows what is best with full knowledge (wisdom), and how God loves us with an everlasting love. He uses these words to encourage us to trust God and to seek Him in everything, especially those many events and details that don't make sense to our limited knowledge and failing strength.

As I have studied and practiced prayer these past months, I have discovered much in this topic. Let me share a little of my journey.

Reading books is helpful, but that is not prayer.

Setting aside a consistent time and place is critical.

A consistent little bit over a long time is better than a whole bunch once in a while.

There is a place for "fasting" in prayer.

There is a place for "seasons" of prayer in addition to regular times in prayer.

     Prayer changes me.

Prayer helps when I need healing, and sometimes healing only comes with prayer.

Remember the NIKE' principle: "Just Do It."

My journey with prayer continues. It is driven by conviction, time and attitude. If you would like to join me on this journey, we do have specific times set aside here at Grace to pray together. Just check the weekly bulletin. Regardless of your ability to join us here on the campus to pray, I am confident that God does richly bless as we seek Him with an awareness of our need for Him. Ultimately, prayer does change me. To God be the glory, great things He has done.

Missionary News

The Work Continues...

On behalf of orphaned and disadvantaged children and their care givers in Liberia, thank you for your partnership in ministry.

The most memorable “thank you” I have ever received on behalf of our ministry was a live chicken! We delivered a thousand pound bag of rice to a woman in Zorzor, Liberia and she gave me a chicken in return. That was after the simplest presentation of the gospel was presented by Pastor Togba. What an expression of thanks!

God has provided so that today we have a child care home in Zorzor with 18 children in care. We are building a school/church multi-purpose building so that we can educate the children in care and in our feeding program. Lord willing, I will be traveling to Liberia and working with our Liberia colleagues May 7-14. Besides Zorzor projects, we are working on construction of a child care home outside Monrovia. PRAY! I humbly ask for your prayers for this trip. Every day will be packed visiting children and care givers, working with team leaders, meeting with local oversight boards and just plain travel trying to get from one place to another where it isn’t always easy. No breakdowns. Good health.

It is my joy to serve with you in the adventure in faith we call Baptist Children’s Home. This adventure takes wisdom and work so that we can be effective in ministry for the glory of the Lord.
