"But you, O Lord
are a God of compassion and mercy,
slow to get angry
and filled with unfailing love and
faithfulness."
The Holy Scriptures are filled with reflective words and thoughts. Consider Philippians 3:12, "Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me." Notice that we are not here to work for God because we have chosen to do so, but because God has taken hold of us. Every Christian is called. Your life is in the grip of God. God's hand is upon you for a purpose. Christ affirmed this fact with His words recorded in John 5:30, "I can of Mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not Mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent Me." The New Testament is filled with similar emphasis. Jude 1:1, " Jude, the servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, to them that are sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ, and called:"
I love to study the life of Moses. Exodus 3 and 4 record some of the detail of God's call upon his life. In the midst of this call, Moses would respond with fear, doubt and excuse. He would doubt his ability to stand in the presence of Pharaoh, he would doubt the power of God, he would doubt his own ability to speak, and finally he would question his own willingness to walk by faith. God met Moses in the midst of each fear, excuse and doubt. God placed His call upon Moses and it was the responsibility and privilege of Moses to take hold of that call and walk with God.
Think and ponder with me for a little while, sit back and close your eyes and consider, "God has taken hold of me. Just like the Apostle Paul or the leader Moses, God has placed His call upon me. He desires to use me." Am I listening to His voice? Am I resisting His call like Moses did? Will I yield to His call and be used of Him? "….Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me."
Love in Christ,
Pastor Paul
